Creating a Family Manifesto
I’m excited to share a concept with you from a chapter in my new book, Within: Making Peace with Food and Body to Create a Happy, Healthy Home. It’s the concept of creating a Family Manifesto. Often I talk to moms who are concerned with raising their kids with a positive mindset around food, and a family manifesto is one practical place to begin to help your children have a healthy relationship with food and their bodies.
There’s no perfect way to be where if I do X, Y, and Z, if I say exactly this, I can guarantee that my child is going to have a healthy relationship with food and their body and they’re going to be perfectly fine. I wish I could give you that black and white manual that would allow you to feel that way, but as you know, life has lots of grey areas. But what I can say that will help you feel more confident is that when you create a family manifesto on your beliefs around food and body, what you talk about, what’s important to you, and how you handle things, then you can know that you always have something to refer back to when you’re feeling emotional or when you’re feeling stressed out.
